Southend Fund Awards Evening Launches Mayor's Charity
The Southend Fund is delighted that Mayor David Norman has chosen to work with the Fund for his Mayoral Year. The Southend Fund committee will organise the Mayor's fundraising events and will also be a major beneficiary along with SAFE and Combat Stress (see below).
Mayor Norman also kindly agreed to present the award certificates at the recent Southend Fund Awards evening. This year seven organisations have received grants totalling £24,256 covering diverse issues such as Homelessness, Social exclusion, Disability and Youth Arts.

The attendees at the awards evening were also stunned and delighted when the hosts, Olympus Keymed, presented a very generous cheque for £10,000 to launch the fundraising year.

The Mayor of Southend has also chosen two other charities to benefit from his fundraising year:
SAFE (Supporting Asperger Families in Essex)
SAFE is a parent support group that works to:
- Raise Awareness of Asperger Syndrome
- Provide Support for individuals and families living with Asperger Syndrome
- Share Information in order to raise the quality of care and understanding within our communities
- Develop Services for people and families affected by Asperger Syndrome

Combat Stress
Combat Stress is the UK's leading military charity specialising in the care of Veterans' mental health.
They look after men and women who are suffering from a psychological condition related to their Service career. This might be depression, anxiety, a phobia or PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). their services are free of charge to the Veteran.
